I don’t know about other firms, but we have had significantly fewer tax returns come into our office in February than usual. Delay in getting forms have made it such that clients have not delivered their 2017 tax documents to us. This means that the workload in March and April will be even more challenging that we are used to, and it is bad enough without these delays.
My suggestion to you is to get your documents to your CPA firm as soon as you can in order to be certain to get into the process with your tax preparer. Waiting until the last minute this year will almost assuredly mean that you will not be able to file by April 15th. Extensions are not a problem, but the sooner you get into the work flow with your tax preparer, the better for all of us.
Hug a CPA today, they really need it and patience and understanding. All of the changes to the deadlines coupled with learning the new tax legislation make it difficult to keep your sense of humor.
